Introduction:

Welcome to Day 14 of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ As we conclude the second week of focus on government and the judiciary, it is appropriate to have Rev Frank Chikane, Pastor in the AFM church and longstanding politician, share a few thoughts with us. Rev Chikane encourages us that in the midst of our current situation in South Africa we should follow Jesus’ example of having compassion on the people of our nation and then doing something about it.

Devotional by Reverend Frank Chikane:

I am Frank Chikane, a pastor of the Apostolic Faith Mission. I am pleased to share with you about the deep compassion of God for His people, the people of South Africa, and the rest of the world. There is no doubt that the people of South Africa are troubled about what is happening in the country and are full of uncertainty, they have a feeling of insecurity and they feel helpless and do not know what to do. But the world is the same it feels exactly as we feel in this country, and that’s why we have gone back to the basics, towards prayer and ask God to help us in this situation, intervene and give us wisdom to find solutions to the problems and challenges we are facing. We know that God is a God of compassion as we read about that in Mat 9:35-36, Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

The first thing is that Jesus went to the people, and I think we should go to the people, we should listen to them, we should see their conditions, the conditions they are experiencing. But it is not only that, He saw the hunger and poverty amongst them. He also saw the fact that people were living without knowledge and experience, and they did not know what would make a difference in their lives, they were harassed, stressed, troubled and confused. So Jesus, then did something, rather than just abandon the situation as it is. He went in and engaged with the people, taught them and proclaimed the good news of the Gospel of salvation from these conditions that the people found themselves and healed them. Moreover He prayed that God would raise leaders, teachers, and servants amongst them.

Daily Prayer Guide:

PROCLAIM this scripture over South Africa: “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:6-7, NKJV)

Father God, LET YOUR KINGDOM COME, LET YOUR WILL BE DONE in South Africa!

Remember to continuously pray Num.6:24-26, Matt.5:2-12 and Eph.1:3-4 over our nation.

Thank you for joining us today in prayer. Grace and peace to you! Have a wonderful and blessed day. Or as we would say it in seSotho, ke leboha bo teng ba hao kajeno tseleng ena ya thapelo. Mohau le kgotso dibe le wena. E ba le letsatsi le letle le hlonolofaditsweng.
