Introduction:

Welcome to Day 11 of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ As we continue to focus our prayer on government and the judicial system, it is appropriate that we have someone who served as EC Provincial Speaker and MEC for Education. Pastor Mkangeli Matomela therefore has many years of experience in politics, but is currently Convener of the Kingdom Governance Movement, and in today’s devotional he points us back to seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness as the solution to our current situation in South Africa.

Devotional by Pastor Mkangeli Matomela:

I give honour and glory to God, our Father in heaven, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. South Africans, we are gathered all over the country this month of April praying to God for his blessings in the mountain of government. The Scripture that we are going to read will guide us as we do that. Let us read from Matthew 6:33:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
This Scripture is relevant to this month in South Africa, because this is the month we obtained our freedom from God. We obtained that freedom because we were praying to God to grant us our freedom during our lifetime. Indeed in 1994, God gave us our freedom. But the advice we are getting from God, His Son and the Holy Spirit is that let us seek His Kingdom first and His righteousness and then everything else we want will be added to us, because God who is our Father, knows our needs, He knows our basic needs as a community and as a people, but unfortunately if we check what we have been doing since 1994 – we have focussed on these things of this world, instead of seeking His Kingdom first. Today, we must repent for that and understand that we need to come closer to God and seek His Kingdom, and in particular, His righteousness, so that everything else like service delivery is added unto us.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne with thanksgiving. We have heard You Word, Heavenly Father, that we must seek Your Kingdom first and Your righteousness, so that You will add anything else You want to us as a people and as a nation. We want to repent, Father, because we did not seek Your Kingdom. The evidence is that we have passed legislation in parliament which are against Your will and purposes. As citizens we have behaved, not as Your children, we have quarrelled amongst ourselves, we are using substances, we are drinking, we are murdering one another, we are involved in corruption. That is why Heavenly Father we are asking You to heal us as a nation and heal us as a people, so that all these which You gave us in 1994, may not be in vain. We know You are a loving Father, connect us with the Holy Spirit so that the Holy Spirit may guide us everyday so that move away from all the things of this world, but by seeking Your Kingdom first so that everything else we ask we ask in pure heart and in peace as Your people so that You may add all these things unto us. We know that our Lord Jesus Christ during this month died and rose so that we may gain what we have lost in terms of Your Kingdom. Save South Africa, bless South Africa, bless the continent of Africa and all the nations of the world, now and forevermore, amen.
