Introduction:

Welcome to Day 8 of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ Today is the beginning of Week 2 where our focus is on Government and the Judicial System. Pastor Olusegun Olanipekun of the Institute for Christian Leadership Development, launches this new focus area by giving us an introduction to praying for this critical area.

Devotional by Pastor Olusegun Olanipekun:

Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. My name is Olusegun Olanipekun, I lead the Institute for Christian Leadership Development in Pretoria and a Pastor of Pretoria Christian Centre.

I am excited about the 50 Days of Prayer action and of proclamation of blessing over the nation of South Africa. It is my prayer from the onset that the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts may be acceptable unto the most high God in this season that we focus on the nation of South Africa.

I have been asked to focus on the domain of Government. Now government simply is the organisation and administration of the state. The South African government is a constitutional democracy with a three tier system of government, and having said that I want to remind of the scripture in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, (2) for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” Paul is setting the order in church service and he is saying these are the things of priority. First, that we should pray for all men that they may be saved, and secondly, that we should pray for Kings and all who are in authority, that includes Presidents, Premiers, Mayors, Councillors, whether they are from our political party or not. The church is called to the duty, the responsibility of upholding these political leaders in prayer. Paul goes on to say that if we pray and cover these leaders, then we can lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. What I believe Paul is saying here is that the prayer of the church for government leaders will produce quietness, peace and it will increase godliness in the land. What happens when the church fails to pray, to bring a covering of light and of glory to bring the light of Jesus over the government, the government becomes increasingly corrupt, inept, they fail in service delivery and the occult begins to influence the government and to corrupt them increasingly. So we don’t want to fail in our duty to pray for the government and to lift them before the throne of God and provide a covering over them so that they may make right decisions.

Another scripture I want to bring to your attention is from Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” In other words, when you see people mourning in a nation, when you see a nation going down and the people are begging for bread and living below the poverty line. When government fails it is primarily because people failed to cover the government in prayer. The church has failed to produce righteous Godly leaders cause no matter how smart or intelligent government leaders are, they need to know and to learn the righteousness of God. The church is mandated to produce righteous godly leaders so that we can have a government that can be a blessing and not a burden to its people.

Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, we pray for South Africa and today we bless South Africa with godly righteous leaders. We pray in the name of Jesus that You bring an end to this season of wickedness and misappropriation of public funds, and that You will bring an end to that. We thank you because that season has come upon the church in South Africa. We give You the Glory in Jesus mighty name.

I want to encourage you friends as you pray. First of all, that you find a closet, your closet could be your car, your office, your home, wherever there is privacy. The Bible says that Jesus went to the mountain to pray, He left His disciples, He was alone with God. For effective prayer this is very important, that you find 5, 10, 15 or even 30 minutes to be alone with God. God loves that time of intimacy and privacy with Him. Secondly, in your prayers, consecrate yourself, separate yourself from worldliness, from ungodly thoughts, from ungodly living. Separate yourself unto God, offer yourself as a living sacrifice unto the Lord Jesus Christ again that you can remain His vessel, His tabernacle and that what you bring to God will not be abominable. The prayer of the wicked, the Bible says, is an abomination before God. After that, I want to encourage you to make a prophetic proclamation over South Africa that a new season has come when South Africa will have righteous and godly leaders and that the nation will no longer mourn because of the release of the sons and daughters of God – ethical, righteous , godly, righteous, bold leaders who will make the government a blessing to the people. May the Lord bless you.
Other Scripture readings for the sector of government include: Exodus 18:18-26, Mat 6:10. You can find other Scripture and make this proclamation by faith and we know that God answers prayers, He is faithful, and we are going to see a turnaround in the government of this nation and the nations of Africa. God bless you.

Daily Prayer Guide:

Pray this blessing over the Government of South Africa: In the Name of Jesus Christ we bless the Government of South Africa, so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness, for this is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth; we bless our rulers and give their hearts into God’s hand, to direct it like a watercourse wherever it pleases Him, so that this government may rule with justice, honesty and fairness towards all citizens, foreigners, the poor and underprivileged, and that righteousness will be established; Our struggle is not against flesh and blood and therefore we bless our leaders with deliverance from and protection against the powers of darkness, against witchcraft and to not be involved in idolatry and any form of occultism; we bless them with wise counsellors and that all wicked men and women will be removed from the presence of the president, ministers and other governmental officials.
