Introduction:

Welcome to Day 7 of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ For today’s devotional we are blessed to have well-known worship leader and Every Nation Pastor, Retief Burger, share a powerful testimony about answered prayer and then give us the four W’s to help us in prayer.

Devotional by Retief Burger:

Hi there, it is Retief Burger speaking. I am so privileged and honoured to be able to share with you on prayer with this great initiative. I don’t know if you this or sense this but God is raising the level of prayer in our country and in our people. I am really sensing that God is doing something new amongst us regarding prayer in this country. It is such a crucial point in history.

I want to share a testimony, just a week ago a good friend of mine’s brother had a massive bacterial attack on his body. He was staying in the Netherlands and people weren’t giving him any chance to live. His father had to come out and the doctors said they must come and say goodbye cause he is going to die. We just started to pray on this side and ask God for a miracle on his behalf. Four days later when the same doctor who performed the operation came back she started to cry when she saw him, cause it was a miracle that he was still alive. We believe in the power of prayer and we believe that God answered our prayer. I want to encourage you to believe that as well. When we speak to God in prayer something happens, something shifts and something moves, and I have learnt that the greatest thing that moves is my own heart. As God is praying through me His will, I am shaped and changed.

Pastor Jim Laffoon, a good friend of ours, taught on building an altar for God, like Abraham, the man of faith, the man of prayer, who did not have a Bible, did not have a church, who just got a commission from God to go. He built an altar wherever he went and that speaks of building our relationship with God and building intimacy with God. I believe as he taught me as well, the four W’s. When we build an altar and spend time with God and spend time in the WORD, and then we WORSHIP and then we WAIT and then we WARFARE. I believe that as we spend time in the Word and we pray the Word, there’s nothing as powerful as praying the Word and as we do that things move and take a new shape and we are changed from the inside out and God hears our prayers. I want to encourage you to pray the Word, but I also want to encourage you to Worship. Something happens when we take the attention off ourselves and we start to worship God for who He is. We just extol Him, we just exalt Him, and we love Him and give Him thanks. And then when we Wait on Him to hear His voice, also what to pray for and what to intercede for. Then fourthly, we need to Warfare as well. We have an enemy, and I know in this time and age that we are living in, there is an enemy and there is so much opposition towards the Church, towards Christians, and towards the word of God. We need to push back in prayer – that is our greatest weapon. I want encourage you to pray, to pray more, to pray regularly, to pray with friends, to pray by yourself. Even Jesus Himself, always withdrew to a quiet place to pray. May we be known as a praying nation, a praying people that believe in the power of prayer and wait on God as He moves this country in a new direction. Bless you!

Daily Prayer Guide:

Please continue to pronounce the 3 blessings from Numbers 6:24-26, Matthew 5:2-12 and Ephesians 1:3-4 DAILY over South Africa.

Today, there is a historic gathering in Bloemfontein, South Africa, where a million or more Christians will gather in an open-air meeting, to humble themselves, pray, seek God’s face, turn from their wicked ways and ask God to visit South Africa. Let us join them as we bless the Church today with the prayer of Jesus in John 17:1-26,

“Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son…as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that we may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

May we have the joy of Jesus fulfilled in us. He has given us Your word and the world hates us. We do not pray that You should take us out of the world, but that You should keep us from the evil one. Sanctify the Church in South Africa by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Jesus into the world, He also have sent us into the world. And for our sakes He sanctified Himself, that we also may be sanctified by the truth. Jesus prayed that we all may be one, as You, Father, are in Jesus, and He in You; that we also may be one in You, that the world may believe that You sent Jesus. (Let this be the testimony that goes from this gathering in Bloemfontein).

And Father, the glory which You gave Jesus, He has given to us, that we may be one just as You are one: Jesus in us, and You in Jesus; that we may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Jesus, and have loved us as You have loved Jesus.

Father, please hear the desire from the heart of your Son, Jesus Christ, and answer His prayer: “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”

O righteous Father! The world does not know You, but Jesus knows You; and we now know that You sent Jesus. He declared to us Your name, and will continue to declare it, so that the love with which You loved Jesus, may be in the Church in South Africa and that Jesus may be in all of us as believers. Amen.

Thank for joining us today in prayer. Grace and peace to you! Have a wonderful and blessed day. Or as we would say it in Venda, Ri khou livhuwa u vha hone havho narine kha thabelo ya namusi . Tshilidzi na Mulalo zwivhe navho.Vha vhe na duvha la vhudi lo shudufhadzeaho
