Introduction:

Welcome to Day 43 of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ Today marks the start of the final week of the 50 Days of Prayer where the focus will be on the critical theme of ‘Family.” As the founder and driving force behind the United Prayer 4 South Africa (UP4SA) Day of Prayer in February each year, Robbie Black is one of the prayer network leaders with a passion for intercession igniting the current prayer revival sweeping our nation. Robbie, who is also the Pastor of Spirit and Life AFM church in East London, gives a brilliant overview of the respective roles of husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, parents and children that need to be in place if we are to see united families, which will result in united churches, which will result in a united nation.

Devotional by Pastor Robbie

Good day

We so often hear, “you can choose your friends but not your family”. You hear “Blood is thicker than water” or “family comes first”!

In the seventh and final week of our 50 days to bless the nation, we will pray for families and confirm God’s blessing upon the families of our nation.

In Gen. 1:27,28 and Mark 10:6-10 we find that God ordained the institution of family by joining man and woman, to become one and to fill and reign over all the earth. Ins South Africa, we talk and dream towards unity in our nation, but we have to acknowledge that it seems that the first circle of unity starts with the family. For this reason we find a severe attack by Satan on marriages and families! Families form the backbone of our nation. The heart, the good, the morals, the culture of a society are rooted in his families.

I sincerely believe that healthy families are crucial for a healthy society. A healthy family will become a healthy church family and a healthy church family will become a healthy nation.

If we want healthy families, we have to pray for the sanctity of Marriage as these days we do find that the biblical view on marriage are totally contempt and discarded.

Everyone in the family environment has to take responsibility to build healthy and biblical families

Husbands and wives need to safeguard their relationship and unity by striving to have the same attitude as our Lord Jesus, suggested by Paul in Phil 2, husbands and wives need to have the same love for each other, serving each other with humility, not seeking own interest but each other’s and also to consider our spouse better than ourselves.

Fathers and husbands mainly need to take up responsibility as spiritual leaders giving spiritual guidance, they have to work diligently to provide for their families and also be protectors of their families. Our men furthermore has to be men of character and integrity, with no compromise.

The Bible says that the roll of wives and mothers is to provide an environment of care and comfort, calmness and gentle wisdom. We pray that they will be virtuous woman, faithful, generous and that peace and kindness will always be in their hearts and mouths.

Parents have the responsibility to install biblical values and a Christian culture to our children. We pray that Parents will have the courage to discipline their children and also guide them towards dealing with discipline.

Children should submit to their parent’s authority by being obedient and respectful.

I want to close with a quote by Elbert Hubbard “No matter what you have done for yourself or for humanity, if you can’t look back on having given love and attention to your own family, what have you really accomplished?”

Let’s pray:

Father we confirm your blessing over our families in South Africa in Jesus name!

We pray for the sanctity of marriage according to your Word!

We pray for restoration of families and we stand united in prayer for spirit filled families.

We pray for strength and grace as we commit ourselves to the biblical perspective on family.

We pray for single parents and the children with absent parents. We pray for the salvation of total households, that fathers, mothers, and children will turn back to you Lord! Amen

Daily Prayer Guide:

Father God, thank You for adopting us into your family through the work of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, and that we can now belong to the “Household of God” (Eph.2:19). Hear our prayers as we bless the families of South Africa in the name of Jesus Christ, with responsible, loving, god-fearing fathers and mothers, with healthy family relationships, with respect between parents and children, with healing for wounds of abuse and rejection. We pray for the restoration of families in our nation.

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: Visit at least two families in your neighbourhood this week. Ask them what you can pray for them and bless them with this blessing: “The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” Num.6:24-26, (NKJV)
