Introduction:

Welcome to Day 30 , week 5, of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ This week the focus is on ‘Media & Sport’ and it is therefor, appropriate that we have the editor and Owner of JOY Magazine and JUIG Tydskrif,. Two of the most influential Christian magazines in South Africa. Erin Georgiou urges us to pray for all the sectors of the media as they are trained to portray a secular viewpoint looking to incite and influence people. We need to pray for Christian journalist that would rather look to promote God’s values in society.

Devotional by Erin Georgiou:

Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ. I am Erin Georgiou and I am from JOY magazine and I am here to just chat about praying for the media in this country. Ideas have consequences and the media has a very important role to play.

I want us to pray this morning for every editor who chooses the articles and chooses the lines and direction of an article. Because it can seriously influence society.

Pray for the journalists who choose the words. Words are very powerful, because the Bible tells us in Prov. 18: 21, that the tongue has the power of life and death. So the words we choose, again, have serious consequences. We need to pray for journalist in the country, that when they write or report a story, that they report it from a godly angle. Pray for Christians in media, that will be bold, that they will stand up and use their God-given talents to influence this nation. We only have one opportunity and our footsteps are ordered by the Lord and He called them into the media and that they will use this by getting into a position of strength by producing excellence in what they do.

Academics and journalism schools and universities across the count teach you to think in very liberal and inclusive way. Most journalists, editors, and academics are very, very liberal as they are trained to think and report in a certain way – most times it’s very inclusive of multiple ideas. We need to include everybody, but do not need to include everybody’s ideas. We need to come from position of a biblical world view = it means that we influence society for good, we put in the right words, the right values, and bring in God’s word into the media.

We need urgent prayer for videographers and roving photographers. That when they do interviews or take photographs and take camera angles, that they do that with integrity. You know that pictures can depict a 1000 words and so often that is the only opportunity we have and some are using it in negative light and that can produce a completely different story to what really happened. Journalists are trained to go for sensationalism and to use headlines, to use reporting, to use the photos that will sell newspaper. We want to do this, we want to use headlines that bring glory to God and bring the truth and bring hope. The Christians and Jesus Christ is the only hope in this country. So please pray for all the video reporters and the radio reporters.

I ask that you will pray that these reporters will occupy the spiritual space that God has given them authority over. In Luke 19:13 Jesus says occupy until I come. You are in a position of influence; you are in a position of strength. Please pray for these journalists.

And I just want to ask you to join me in prayer. Before I do that I just want to read

2 Tim 4: 1 -5

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.”

I charge every media worker today to do the work of an evangelist. Think of eternity when you are reporting on a story. Is Jesus pleased with what we are doing? And I encourage you today, its tough out there.

So lets pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you this morning for an incredible opportunity to be in position to influence society. May every Christian rise up and take up their rightful mandate. I pray, Lord that they will have your word, that they will seek You and Your kingdom first every morning and that Your Word will be ever present in their hearts as they write every article and story. I pray that You will bless this nation, Lord. The time has come to arise and be bold. Bless them as they face persecution and criticism. I ask Jesus, that You fill us, fill us with Your Word and encouragement. We bless You Lord, In Jesus Name, Amen.

Daily Prayer Guide:

In the Name of Jesus Christ, we bless the broadcasts of Radio and TV. We pray that these technologies will be used as instruments to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that documentaries, movies and programmes will be made that proclaim the Truth about God and give accurate instructions on how to live a holy and godly life. May the Radio and TV in our nation become a tool in the hand of God to lead millions of people to salvation.

Continue to pronounce the 3 blessings of Num.6:24-26, Mat.5:2-12 and Eph.1:3-4 over South Africa.

PRAYER-WALK/DRIVE: Send this blessing to all your Facebook friends: “I bless you to know how dependent you are on God, for to you belong the kingdom of God. I bless you if your mourn, for you shall be comforted. I bless you with meekness, for then you shall inherit the earth. I bless you to hunger and thirst for righteousness, for you shall be filled. I bless you to be merciful, for you shall obtain mercy. I bless you to have a pure heart, for then you shall see God. I bless you if you are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for yours shall be the kingdom of heaven. I bless you when people revile you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for the sake of Jesus Christ. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Mat.5:2-12, (NKJV)

May you experience the blessings of God daily and walk in His council and seek His will. In Jesus name.
