Introduction:

Welcome to Day 4 of the ‘Bless the Nation 50 Days of Prayer.’ We continue during this first week with the prayer focus on the Church and other religions. In today’s devotional the Reverend Reginald Thomas, who served as the Presiding Bishop of the Pentecostal Holiness Church for 25 years, gives us a wonderfully reassuring message that we can call to God, He will hear us and will answer us.

Devotional by Rev Reginald Thomas:

There are times that our faith grows dull and dim because of the things we encounter. We feel as if God had forsaken us, that we are alone and on our own, without anyone to turn to.

But this is what the Lord says: “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your heart. I will be found by you”, declares the Lord.(Jeremiah 29:11-14).

Here the Lord extends an open invitation to call on Him in prayer and He promise to listen to us. 1Jn 5:14 says “And if we know that He hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of Him.” If we asked according to His will.

Jer. 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Here is an encouragement to call to the Lord with the blessed assurance that He will answer us, and reveal secret things to us.

Deut, 4:7, declares: “What nation is so great as to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to Him?”

How privileged are we to have our God near to us whenever we pray, so that He can come to our rescue, just like He rebuked, quieted the storm and calmed the waves on the open sea when the disciples feared that the boat they were sailing on, were going to sink. Lk. 8:24

Prayer

Our heavenly Father what joy it is to call on your Name knowing that You hear us and that your desire is for us to call on You for all our needs. I thank you Lord that your plan is to prosper us and give us hope and a secure future. Thank you Lord that you loved us so much that you did not spare your only begotten Son, but that gave Him as a sacrifice in order that we might go free and be delivered from our sin. Lord I pray for peace and stability in our nation, you exhort us to pray for those who are set in authority over us, I pray for our President and his cabinet that you will bless them with understanding and wisdom to govern this country in such a way that we will live a quiet and peaceful life. Bless the people of this country that we will respect and love each other as you have loved us, and help us to put aside our indifferences and racial prejudices. I pray that we will have rain in its season and that our crops will not fail. I pray for good health for our people and provision for all our needs. Give job opportunities so that we can take care of all our responsibilities. I ask this humbly in Jesus precious Name. Amen.

Daily Prayer Guide:

BLESSING ON OTHER RELIGIONS: We bless our enemies, we bless those who curse us, we bless those who hate us, we bless those who spitefully use and persecute us. We bless the adherents of other religions: May their eyes be opened, and may they turn from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God, to receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Jesus Christ. May they know the love of God as Father, the grace and truth that comes through Jesus Christ and the power of healing and deliverance of the Holy Spirit. Bless South Africa, o Lord God!
